Kugimiya’s paintings of feline busts are distinguished by their obscured facial features. The busts are positioned atop a variety of bases. In some of the compositions, the light is directional, and the busts cast long shadows, while in others the light is more diffuse, and the shadows disappear. Concurrent with the paintings are a delicate series of drawings where the volumes are modeled through the rubbing of graphite against the tooth of the paper. Her figures convey a feline aspect, which is an on-going subject in Kugimiya’s art for the past two decades.
